Neither of the two prospects on my desk this morning qualifies for further analysis because of relatively low implied volatility .

I require that IV be in the 50th percentile or greater of either the annual range or the most recent broad movement.

AIG’s numbers are 27th percentile for the annual and 21st for the recent, and PEP’s numbers are 33rd for the annual and 41st for the recent.

My trading day will be shortened due to other obligations. If I exit any positions, I shall post Outcomes and results after the closing bell.

Tuesday’s Prospects

I have two potential earnings plays under consideration for Tuesday. Both AIG and PEP have low implied volatility compared to both their annual ranges and their most recent broad moves, AIG by a wide margin and PEP by a narrow one.

If IV rises sufficiently on either or both of the symbols, then I shall do an analysis and potentially a trade.

I am attempting exits of BP and INTC at my target prices, but the orders have not yet been filled. I shall update Outcomes after the closing bell if either finds buyers sellers at my offering price that will allow me to cover my short positions.

The Week Ahead: Prices, retail, industry, housing

Two price reports will be published during the week, the consumer price index on Wednesday and the producer price index on Tuesday, each at 8:30 a.m. New York time.

The reports are important in helping to form traders’ expectations for future interest rates.

Also out, on Wednesday, retail sales at 8:30 a.m., industrial production at 9:15 a.m. Housing starts will be published on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.

Fed Chair Janet Yellen makes her semi-annual reports to Congress. She testifies before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs on Tuesday and before the House Committee on Financial Services. Both appearances begin at 10 .m.
